Xiamen (also known as Amoy), is located in Fujian Province and has a population of about 3,5 million people. It lies facing the island of Taiwan and is bordered to the north and south of the city of Quanzhou with the city of Zhangzhou. Xiamen is a clean, prosperous city and one of the four original Special Economic Zones opened to foreign investment. The Port of Xiamen is one of the busiest of China, in 2009 was ranked as one of the top 20 ports in the world (for freight of container). Xiamen is a city of great economic development and at the same time is one of the favorite tourist city, thank to its attractions and its favorable climate. Xiamen has a pleasant subtropical seaside climate, with agreeable spring throughout most of the year. The average temperature is around 21 degrees, without extremes of heat during the summer or cold during the winter months. The average rainfall for the city are around 1,200 mm of rain and are concentrated between May and August. An important attraction is the Gulangyu Island, one of the most famous place in Xiamen. Also the Nanputuo Temple is also visited from many tourists. Other attractions are a lot of isle, mountains and parks. Xiamen is easily accessible by plane, train, bus and boat, and local public transport are very good.
